Most interior designers never think about insurance until something goes wrong.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why professional liability protection is one of the most important, and most overlooked, parts of running a design business.

Many designers assume their homeowner’s insurance will somehow cover their business because they work from home. Others believe they’re too small to need professional coverage. But the truth is, every project carries liability, regardless of the size of your business.

I share real stories from my own experience, including client disputes over materials, remodel complaints, damaged products, and unexpected accidents that could have easily turned into expensive legal situations.

We also talk about errors and omissions insurance, what it actually covers, and why even defending yourself against a claim can become financially overwhelming.

One of the biggest takeaways from this episode is that liability isn’t always about doing something wrong. Sometimes clients simply become unhappy after the fact, question decisions, or misunderstand expectations, and suddenly you’re forced to defend your work.

That’s why documentation, signed approvals, email communication, and strong business systems are so important. Protecting yourself legally is just as essential as creating beautiful designs.

I also explain why you need to separate your personal and business coverage, protect inventory and stored furniture properly, and make sure every part of your business is professionally covered.

Because one unexpected situation can put years of hard work, income, and personal assets at risk.
