Many interior designers are looking for templates because they want a shortcut.

A template for a letter of agreement. A template for deliverables. A template for pricing. A template for managing projects.

But in this episode, I explain why templates rarely solve the real problem.

The challenge isn’t the document itself. The challenge is understanding how to plan a project, define deliverables, establish boundaries, structure payments, and create a clear path for both the client and the designer.

Every project is different. A furniture project requires different expectations than a remodel. A commercial office requires a different process than a luxury residential installation. That’s why one-size-fits-all templates often leave designers exposed, disorganized, and frustrated.

I also break down what deliverables actually are and why clients need clear, tangible expectations about what they will receive throughout the design process. When expectations are unclear, projects slow down, profitability decreases, and client satisfaction suffers.

We also discuss the importance of boundaries inside your agreements, including meeting limits, design revisions, selections, payment schedules, timelines, and project scope. These details create clarity and protect your business.

Another key takeaway is the importance of systems. Templates that exist outside of an organized business process often create confusion and poor financial tracking. Strong design businesses rely on systems, planning, and clear communication—not shortcuts.

When you learn how to think through a project strategically and create agreements that support both your client and your business, you build confidence, profitability, and a far better client experience.
