Are you working harder and harder in your interior design business but still not attracting the higher-end projects you want?

Most designers start their businesses by hustling, taking every opportunity that comes through the door and doing whatever it takes to keep the business moving. But that same approach won’t necessarily help you move up market.

In this episode, I explain why moving up market requires a paradigm shift. It’s not about working longer hours. It’s about changing how you think about your value, your fees, and what’s possible for your business.

I discuss why you need to become comfortable charging higher design fees before you can confidently step into larger projects and budgets. If asking for $20,000, $60,000, or more creates resistance, that’s an important mindset issue to recognize.

Your environment matters too. The people around you can influence how you think about money, success, and what’s possible. I share the story of my eight-year-old granddaughter completing a triathlon because the people around her supported her instead of telling her it was too difficult.

Pay attention to who’s pulling you forward and who’s holding you back. This isn’t about judging people, it’s about creating boundaries and surrounding yourself with influences that support your growth.

Moving up market starts internally. Upgrade your mindset, believe in your value, and create an environment that supports where you want to go.
