Episode 88: Not Charging Enough?

Interior Design Business Podcast Episode 88: Not Charging Enough?

Are you charging enough for your product purchasing services?

I talk a lot about design fees and prices here on the Interior Design Business podcast, but in this episode, I want to talk about the product sales side of things: furniture, drapery, light fixtures, flooring, windows… all of it!

A lot of designers get caught up in the idea that they need to make things as cheap as possible to make a sale, which means they undercharge for products. Don’t let that be you!

In this episode, I’m teaching you why you should separate your design services from your product sales, how to change your mindset around product sales, and how to profit from your product sales.

Topics We Cover in This Episode:

  • Keeping product sales separate from design services
  • How to operate as a designer, not a furniture salesman
  • A good rule to follow when it comes to product sales
  • Maintaining control over product purchasing
  • How the cost-plus model works
  • Why your mindset is getting you in trouble
  • How to be good with a client’s budget without being cheap

You deserve to be profitable and you’re supposed to be profitable. That’s how a business works! You give your heart and soul to your clients, and they are willing to pay you, trust me! Don’t undersell your services because you’re afraid of charging too much when in reality you’re probably not charging enough!
