Who would think that such small shifts in habits could create such big results? In this case making just a few adjustments in the way you handle your money can create a big difference in your bank account.
Remember money is the perfect mirror for showing us how well we are at stepping into, and handling our power. It can show us when we are hanging back and playing small, when we are being childish and ignoring finances,or when we are worried that we will outshine someone important in our lives if we are too “successful.”
When you make the decision to get your money mindset and money handling habits in line with your vision you can quickly move forward to your goal.
After all, money is the measure of how many people you have touched…and how much impact on the world you have made with your gift.
Your gift of creating beauty and comfort in the lives of others deserves to be beautifully rewarded and well paid.
Here are three little habits that create big results that you can easily implement right now.
#1 – Appreciate Money
Change your relationship with money to one that is loving. Don’t worry, loving money won’t turn you into a greedy person. Appreciating and loving with an open heart is the opposite of guilty, fearful, secretive, resentful, and ashamed.
Holding on to any of those negative emotions around money will leak into other parts of your life and business.
When you shift your emotions regarding money you stop ignoring your bank accounts, late paying clients and unbilled design time, and start focusing on the positive actions that will put you on track with money.
#2 – Keep your bookkeeping in order.
Many designers do not keep track of their income and expenses. All the invoices and receipts stay in a big pile until tax time and then sorting it all out becomes overwhelming. When you have a simple system for keeping invoices and receipts in order on a weekly basis, the task is easy and manageable.
There is something truly empowering in knowing how much money you have created. Often this income is way more than you giving yourself credit for. The knowledge of how the money flows in and out of your business is so valuable. You often can make decision that will avert a problem long before it happens.
#3 – Raise your fees.
Notice I am saying raise your fees and not your hourly rate. Raising your hourly charge and then not billing all your time is the same as giving yourself a demotion.
If you have been charging $4,500 to design a living room for awhile it is time to go to $5,800. If you have been doing $30,000 in product for those living rooms for the last year it is time to push that number up to $40,000.
Presenting higher fees may stir up some emotions, so be sure to focus on how raising that fee will help you. You want to expand into this new sense of self worth not shrink back and inward.
The simple act of raising your fees helps pull you forward and lets you see your own value. Plus raising your fees tells the world that you are confident in the results that you create, helping others see your value too. Remember this increase in fees goes directly to your bottom line and that feels good!
