Many designers talk to me about working way too many hours, evenings and weekends – often 50 or 60 hours a week and missing out on important family time. And on top of all that, they’re not being paid well for all this extra time spent on a job. They tell me it’s becoming a drag and they’re afraid of losing the joy of creating good design.

This mindset I refer to is learned from others around you, they’re sharing their scarcity attitudes and after awhile you start believing it too.
It can be from friends, coworkers, and also your family. It’s based on how they think of themselves financially (yourself included) and others as “too big for their britches” when they try to rise above the passed down scarcity mindset.
Scarcity mindset is all around us. Even the media is to blame since it creates a good story to portray the rich guy as the bad guy. And it’s been happening for hundreds of years.
Consider the Robber Barons.
A robber baron is defined as a businessman from the 19th century who engaged in unethical and monopolistic practices, wielded widespread political influence, and amassed enormous wealth.
Andrew Carnegie is listed a robber baron.
Does his name sound familiar?
Carnegie led the expansion of the American steel industry. He gave almost 90 percent of his fortune ($78.6 billion in today’s economy) to charities, foundations, and universities. He called on the rich to use their wealth to improve society, and it stimulated a wave of philanthropy. He even commissioned the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.
To be fair, he wasn’t perfect … but, does he sound bad to you?
I don’t think so either and here’s how it relates to you … you don’t have to be trapped by the scarcity mindset shared in society any longer.
You can take control of your own life (and eliminate your lack of money) by changing your mindset and expecting abundance in your life.
