I want to share a little wisdom with you. This week I was working with one of the designers in our Q&A calls. She was talking about feeling guilty because she was making so much money. I call this a good problem, but she’s having trouble getting used to it.
She’s gone to doing flat fees, which brings in way more money, and that way, you get paid for all your time. Also, she’s raised the prices on her products, so that’s bringing in more money. People are signing up better, faster, and easier, so that’s working well. And she’s getting some referral fees back from the contractors she’s worked with on some of her jobs.
Between all of that, she’s bringing in quite a bit more. But, she’s also struggling a little bit with what is called “Money Guilt.”
I have to tell you that it’s not an unusual thing. That may be hard to believe, but it’s true. It’s much easier to give than receive. Receiving all this money coming in is often somewhat difficult.
An excellent way to check yourself to see if you have difficulty receiving is to pay attention to what happens when someone pays you a compliment. If someone remarks that you look fabulous, and instead of thanking them, you blow it off as if it’s no big deal. You brushed off the compliment, and you didn’t let the good stuff in.
One of the mindset secrets of making money, having abundance in your life, and having plenty of money and clients, is to let it in. So, practice that, and check to see if you have habitual “brush off” going on.
Watch the video above where I explain the other side of this, which is to pay attention to what is coming into your life and practice being grateful for every little bit. I share what I do in my business when money comes in to show how grateful I am and celebrate it. When you pay attention to what you want and put that good energy into it, you will see it grow.
One actionable piece of this I need to say is if you’re going to do referral fees back from your vendors, you do need to state that possibility in your Letter of Agreement to provide clarity to your clients.
