[Video] Money Runs Your Job

Today I want to discuss what happens when you ask your client for a budget, and they say, “I don’t know.” It’s the most common response, and either they really don’t know, or they do, but they don’t want to tell you. Regardless of which way they respond, you still don’t have an answer.

My question to you is: do you keep asking questions until you get to an agreed-upon budget? Or do you shy away from it and guess based on what the house looks like, how the client dresses, or how the neighborhood looks? Or maybe, you gauge what the client is thinking based on what they want to pay for a sofa or area rug? But even if you stay within that frame, you still don’t have a bottom line.

You end up creating your beautiful design, present it, and the client loves it.

But when you tell them the price, the client faints and falls on the floor. It happens all the time! And it’s not fun because their request is inevitably for you to do it over and make it cheaper.

Not only does this mean you have to go back and mess up your design, but you have to spend twice as much time doing it over.

And, you just took all the profit out of the job. You end up doing it because you want to finish the job and make the client happy…

But it doesn’t feel good.

It’s a challenging spot to be in, but there’s another way to do it.

Watch the video above where I explain when you do something different from the very beginning at your first paid appointment.

You will have an easy way to get your agreed-upon budget number. Then, you can create your beautiful design, present it, the client is happy with the work, it is “in budget,” and they buy it.

You know what? It works like a charm…

This sales process system is one of our signature systems that I teach at IDBA. And it’s also what I’m teaching at this year’s Design Biz Summit 2021: Overhaul Your Business in Three Days and Finally Get Paid What You’re Worth.

It is a fabulous three-day virtual training with a small, intimate group of designers.

I want to talk with everyone and make sure they have a full understanding of the content so you can use it on your very next client.

I will be giving you the step-by-step recipes, nothing held back. If you are done doing jobs over that result in earning pennies and ready to create some real money in your design business, then you will love Summit!

This virtual event is also a great way to connect with other designers and get all your design business questions answered.

I’m inviting you to join me for Design Biz Summit 2021: Overhaul Your Business in Three Days and Finally Get Paid What You’re Worth. Three days, November 3 – 5, 2021.
