Moving Past Self-Sabotage to Make Better Decisions
Today, I want to talk to you about self-sabotage.
It’s something that often happens with designers, and it typically shows up in situations of not where you are not recognizing opportunities that are right at your feet, or maybe perhaps directly under your nose. It shows up in not going after an opportunity because you are feeling not capable, or not good enough yet. It’s as if you need to have done something else first, in order to deserve it. Or, you simply get small saying, “Oh well, I couldn’t do something like that. Oh, no, no.”
Yet, if it’s an opportunity and it showed up for you, it is for you. It’s the universe’s way of saying, “Here you go, all for you.”
How Indecision Keeps You from Moving Forward
But, the most significant self-sabotage practice I see going on is indecision. Indecision can show up in a bunch of different ways. It shows up as waffling, you know, the, “Hmm, well, I will. No, I don’t know. Well, maybe, I can’t. Well, let me… no, I won’t.” You go back and forth, back and forth, until the opportunity is no longer available.
Another is the analysis paralysis version, where you have to gather information. Of course, you should collect information before you make the connection. However, when the information gathering goes on and on, and you can’t make the connection and step in because you still gathering information, you have missed the benefit of the opportunity. It’s gone. In fact, you often don’t ever gather enough information to make a decision, and you stay stuck. It’s a way of avoiding a decision. Sometimes it goes so far that you’re just putting your head in the sand and pretending like it’s not there. And that can have crazy consequences!
One of the things that that I know for truth is that indecision, or the consequences of indecision, are far, far greater and far rougher than had you made the decision. Indecision will beat you up time and time again. I know because I see it over and over again.
If this is you, and you have trouble with decisions, don’t beat yourself up. Nobody ever taught you how to do it so, how would you know any differently?
There is a process for making decisions, and it looks like this. One, you’re collecting information, things about cost, time, and overall commitments. Two, it has to do with ROI, or return on investment. In other words, what do you want out of this? Three, check in with how your heart feels about it. Your heart knows, “This is the right thing for me.” I mean, it really does know that, there’s an intelligence there. And then there’s that gut feeling. Remember that phrase, “I have a gut feeling about this,”?
Join Us in November to Manifest the Life You Want
Well, what does that tell you? When you combine all these things, you can make intelligent decisions.
And intelligent decisions are an essential part of being able to step into abundance and let all of those good things, all the money, the time, the clients, the great jobs, and all the good stuff roll into you and become part of your life. This is one of the big pieces that I teach at the Design Biz Summit: Mastering Your Mindset. It is an integral part of being able to step into abundance, and we all need to learn it and to be able to use it.
We would love to have you check out our Design Biz Summit! You can click on the link below and find out all the details. It’s four days in November in Scottsdale, Arizona, where it’s beautiful and sunny, and we have lunch outside on the patio every day.
In attendance, we will have 100 designers who are caring and connected and sharing. We all come from different places, different kinds of practices, and yet, we’re all the same too. It’s really a lovely thing to step into, and you can make some amazing friendships out of it too. During the event, we dance and use movement to let go of things that we want to get rid of. We use that movement to let in the new stuff so that we transform. We learn the exact steps for manifesting what you want through using the universal powers that have been there for you all along. It’s a lovely process. I’d love to share it with you, and I’d be honored if you were there. If you take a look at the link below, check it out, grab your seat, and I’ll see you there.
In the meantime, design something beautiful and get paid what you’re worth.
